Jeseník District

The Okres Jeseník ( German district Freiwaldau ) is a town in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic. The Okresy were roughly comparable to the districts in Germany, the district administrations were dissolved on 31 December 2002.

The district is located in the northernmost part of Moravia on the border with Poland in Moravian-Silesian Region and comprises the northern Altvatergebirge and Reichensteiner Mountains. In Okres Jeseník live 719 km ² approximately 42,000 people in 24 communities ( Obec ) with 56 districts ( část obcí ). The Jesenicko region consists of four micro-regions. In 1996, the Golden Mountains from the Okres Bruntál was spun off and since then is one to Okres Jeseník.

34 % of the area is used for agriculture, 59 % is forested. About half of the district is part of the nature reserve Jeseníky with the highest mountain Praděd (Altvater ) and many well-known ski regions, and Ramzová Ostružná. In addition, through the district bicycle paths remote from Głuchołazy to Břeclav as well as the Polish- Czech way of Lądek -Zdrój on Javorník after Otmuchów.
