Jesse Lynch Williams

Jesse Lynch Williams ( born August 17, 1871 in Sterling, Illinois, † September 14, 1929 in Herkimer, New York) was an American journalist, author of novels and short stories as well as playwright who for his play Why Mary? 1918 as the first playwright won the Pulitzer Prize for drama received.

Life

After studying Williams graduated from Princeton University and after graduation was the first editor of the Princeton Review. Together with John De Witt, he was the author of the book The History of Princeton University. In the following years he worked not only as a journalist but wrote next to novels and short stories and plays.

In 1918 he was awarded for his play Why Mary? Be the first playwright won the Pulitzer Prize for drama.
