Jiawei Han

Jiawei Han (Chinese韩 家 炜, Pinyin Hán Jiawei; born August 11, 1949 in Shanghai) is a Chinese computer scientist.

Han graduated from the University of Wisconsin computer science with a Ph.D. in 1985. He was a professor at Simon Fraser University and is a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, where he is Abel Bliss Professor.

He is known for research on large database systems and especially data mining ( in multimedia data, biological data, streaming media, data in social networks, the Internet and RFID data).

In 2009 he received the W. Wallace McDowell Award. He is a Fellow of the IEEE (1996) and the Association for Computing Machinery.
