Jiaxin Cheng

Jiaxin Cheng (Chinese程嘉欣, Pinyin Chéng Jiaxin; born October 2, 1974) is a Chinese cellist.

Life and career

Cheng attended until 1997, the Conservatory of Music in Shanghai. She already had appearances with the Symphony Orchestra of Shanghai, but then left China for further studies in New Zealand, where she obtained her Master 's degree in 2001 from the University of Auckland.

During their stay in New Zealand was the principal cellist Cheng Auckland Chamber Orchestra and played regularly with both the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. With the Auckland Symphony Orchestra, she played cello concertos by Dvorak, Elgar and Lalo. Cheng also was a founding member of the Aroha String Quartets.

Since 2007, Cheng lived in London, where she gave several recitals. Her performance in April 2008 at Her Majesty's Theatre with Andrew and Julian Lloyd Webber has been described as " the emotional highlight of the evening ." She has appeared in April 2011 as a soloist at the Royal Festival Hall and with Julian Lloyd Webber on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM, CNN, Global TV and BBC TV. From them shots for Universal Classics and Naxos were made. In 2013, more recordings and tours with the European Union Chamber Orchestra are planned.

Cheng's first recording with cellist Julian Lloyd Webber, which was published in March 2011, was Menotti's Arioso presented for two cellos and strings and was on the album The Art of Julian Lloyd Webber.

Jiaxin Cheng is married to the cellist Julian Lloyd Webber. They have a daughter (* 2011).
