A Arioso (plural: ariosos ) is a piece of music for a solo voice and instrumental accompaniment. A Arioso is sanglicher and less dramatic recitative obligated as the recitative, but of more open and less firmly entrenched form than the aria.

Ariosos usually found not individually, but as sets of operas, oratorios or cantatas; in texts that are, for example, Bible words that do not rhyme, but still have a less narrative than lyrical character. In a way, the Arioso therefore could be considered as a successor of the free solo madrigal.
