Jiegu

Jiegu (Chinese羯鼓, jiégǔ Pinyin, English wether drum, drum - jie ') is an historic Central Asia and in China during the Tang Dynasty popular hourglass. It was played with two wooden mallets.

After Jiu Tangshu they should in Central Asia in the area of Kuqa ( Qiuci ), Shule, Kocho ( Gaochang ) and Tianzhu (天竺) in the time of the Sui and Tang dynasties have been used in the Yanyue燕 乐music and was later in the Chinese upper class popular (see the grave Wang Chuzhi ). Tang Emperor Xuanzong (r. 712-756 ) was said to be an accomplished player.

A Jiegu derived from the Korean drum called Galgo, the barrel drum Kakko in Japan is used in gagaku music.
