Life

French was born in the United States. After leaving school, studied French from 1950 to 1954 at the Philadelphia Museum School of Art in Philadelphia. From 1955 to 1957 French was in active service with the United States Army, having previously served as a reservist two years. Then French went to New York City where he worked as a fashion illustrator. He founded together with a friend from Army times the mail order Luger, about whom he sold pictures and drawings of homoerotic art in the 1960s. French published as an author of several books with photographs and drawings.

After his business partner Frenchs had bought shares in Luger, he founded in 1967 together with Lou Thomas in New York, the company Colt Studio. French had previously worked nearly a year to the drawings, and photographs for the new company. First Colt also sold drawings and photographs as mail order. After 15 years in New York French in 1972 decided to move to California, where he had often traveled up to that point because of the good weather and the variety of available models. In 1974 he bought the company's shares his business partner Lou Thomas at Colt Studio, whose headquarters he also relocated to California in the San Fernando Valley.

French sold the company Colt 2003 Studio to the company Prowest Media, the John Rutherford - heard and whose life partner Tom Settle - the former president of Falcon Studios. He was honored with induction into the Hall of Fame of the GayVN Awards 2005.
