Jimmy Young (Boxer)

Jimmy Young ( born November 16, 1948 in Baltimore, † 20 February 2005 in Philadelphia ) was an American boxer.

Young was one of the most skillful heavyweight in the 70s. He was normal boom and had little clout, but that made up for it by clever way of fighting. It was the beginning of his career so mismanaged and lost against weak opponents from today's perspective. But then he started an impressive winning streak; among other things, he suggested the fearsome puncher Ron Lyle.

Young in 1976 became famous by fighting against an untrained acting Muhammad Ali in Landover, as he pushed to the world title in the heavyweight division. The battle won Muhammad Ali after 15 rounds by points. However, the ruling was controversial, as many observers saw it as Young winner. He demanded a rematch, but it was not even, as in 1977 George Foreman auspunktete.

The WBC then put on a fight against Ken Norton, so that at least one of them would get a rematch. Young lost very thin and was bitter. After this defeat, he was never more the old man. He did not come close to the world-class and finished his career finally 1988.

On 20 February 2005, he died at the age of 56 years after he had suffered a few years at a caused by the boxes dementia.
