Jind State

Jind ( Jhind ) was a princely state in the Punjab region of British India. The principality was founded in 1763 by the Sikh Gajpat Singh as a vassal state of the Mughal Empire. Bagh Singh (1789-1810) fought alongside the British against the Marathas and the Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh. 1809-1947 Jind was a British protectorate. Raja Raghubir Singh ( 1864-87 ) in 1881 for Raja -i - Rajgan, Ranbir Singh ( 1887-1948 ) in 1911 raised to the Maharaja.

Jind consisted of three separate districts ( Sangrur, Jind, Dadri ) and in 1941 had an area of ​​3364 km ² and 372,000 inhabitants. Jind had in 1874 a government post with own stamps and graduated in 1885 an agreement with the British Indian Post. From then on until 1950, British Indian stamps with overprint of the country name and heraldry were used.
