Patiala and East Punjab States Union

The Patiala and East Punjab States Union ( PEPSU ) was a state of India, which was created through the merger of eight princely states of Punjab on 15 July 1948 and 1950 a state of the Indian Union. Most princes were Sikhs. Capital city was Patiala Maharaja of Patiala and the last was Rajpramukh (Head of State ). On November 1, 1956 all princely states were dissolved and PEPSU part of the state of Punjab. The southeastern part of Jind and Narnaul came in 1966 to the state of Haryana.

To PEPSU included the following princely states: Patiala, Jind, Nabha, Faridkot, Kapurthala, Kalsia, Malerkotla and Nalagarh. It had an area of ​​26,000 km ² and 3.4 million inhabitants ( 1948).
