Jo Ment

Hans Joachim (Jochen ) " Jo " element ( * 1923 in Hamburg ( Barmbek ), † 2002 in Hamburg ) was a German bandleader, composer, arranger, musician ( bandoneon, saxophone) and the father of the radio host John Ment.

Life and work

Ment played since the age of eight bandoneon and since the age of eleven clarinet. He also completed a conservatory education in Viola, Clarinet and Music History. By the 1950s Movement was a member of the Big Band of the North German Radio, and later contacts with Bert Kaempfert, James Last, Horst turn added ( Roberto Delgado ) and Ladi Geisler. For these and other artists he played at times when shooting, among other things, he participated in the successful tours of the Continental Tango Orchestra by Alfred some home. Since the early 1980s until his death, he was a regular member of the orchestra of James Last, where he presented the bandoneon in an impressive way in solo titles. With load he succeeded in including the hit single Biscay 1981/82. On the bandoneon he also accompanied Franz -Josef Degenhardt at a recording session in 1977 and 1990.

From 1956 until the late 1970s entertained Ment own orchestra, the first only occurred at public events and parties since the late 1960s, published about 50 LPs in the Ariola label. The recordings were extremely versatile; they ranged from current chart hits ( Tops for Dancing ) over popular pieces ( Lorelei asks for a dance ) evergreens ( Golden Oldies for Dancing ). By marketing Jo Ment 's Happy Sound parallels to Happy Party Sound of colleagues load became apparent. A collaboration was also registered with the singer Rex Gildo ( Rex Gildo 's Disco Club with Jo Ment 's Happy Sound). For many LP recordings he committed the so-called Happy Party Singers as well as several studio musicians in the orchestra of Bert Kaempfert, James Last and Kai Warner.
