Joachim Illies

Joachim Illies ( born March 23, 1925 in Ketzin, Havel country; † 3 June 1982 slot in the Vogelsberg ) was a German biologist, entomologist and non-fiction author.

Life

Joachim Illies studied biology in Göttingen and Kiel. He was an honorary professor of zoology at Giessen, a researcher at the former Max Planck Institute for Limnology in Plön and headed at times its branch Limnological River Station in slot. Illies scientifically dealt mainly with limnological issues, in particular the ecology and taxonomy of freshwater insects.

Illies was also synodical the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD ). He has published about forty books on subjects of the border area of anthropology and theology.

Illies 1981 belonged to a small circle of the first signatories of the Heidelberg Manifesto, whose ethnopluralistisch and ecologically justified racism startled the West German public and gained great importance in the far-right scene. Compared with the weekly Die Zeit said Illies: "I have given my signature, I stand by. More but please do not " and a demand in terms of the racist content: ". In biology, one is now gone so far that one can only take in rabbits in the mouth the word 'race' "Together with Werner Georg Haverbeck. another first signatories of the manifesto, Illies succeeded in 1982, was appointed to the Ecological Council of the newly founded Ecological- Democratic Party ( ödp ).

In the interdisciplinary field of theology and evolutionary research Illies relativized the Darwinian explanation of evolution. " Joachim Illies was convinced as a biologist determined from the historical aspect of evolution. Illies distanced himself clearly from fundamentalists. The question, however, as for all evolution comes about, he broke away from the science. Darwinism, he simply equated with chance and necessity, was for him a refuted hypothesis. " According to Illies it can only be the hand of the biblical God that drives the evolution in a mysterious way. In his last, posthumously published book The Century mistake about Darwinism and evolution Illies argued accordance with the following position: there is a gradual generation chain from the amoeba to man, but Darwinism with its reduction to mutation and selection is an oversimplification all evolutionary process. Behind the evolution 'm more; it was something previously not understood; this misunderstood forms the bridge to the religious.

Joachim Illies died shortly after a press conference in Frankfurt am Main due to heart failure. There he had his book The Secret of the Green presented planet. Carsten Bresch, who had previously planned a scientific discussion with him on the subject of creation and / or evolution on Austrian television, could now hold an obituary Joachim Illies, which he finished with great respect only: "His books are the memory of the people and confessors Joachim Illies keep alive even in those who are scientifically different opinion. "

Joachim Illies is the father of author and journalist Florian Illies.
