Joachim Meichssner

Joachim Meichssner ( born April 4, 1906 in German - Eylau, † September 29, 1944 in Berlin- Plotzensee ) was a German career officer and resistance fighter of the 20th July 1944.

Life

Joachim Meichssner was the son of the pastor and later superintendent in Wittenberg Maximilian Meichssner. After graduation in 1924 at the high school Schulpforta at Bad Kösen he chose the career officer in the Reichswehr. 1935 Meichssner was ordered to report to the General Staff training at the Military Academy in Berlin- Moabit. After the academy training followed 1937, the transfer to the High Command of the Army, where he served as first General Staff officer and group leader at the General Army Office from 1940 onwards. His superior was General Friedrich Olbricht the infantry, came over the Meichssner in conjunction with the resistance groups.

After a front line 1943 Meichssner as a colonel in the general staff head of the organization department of the Armed Forces Operations Staff, which he was allowed to attend the briefings in Hitler. However, he did not want to perform even the assassination.

After the failed assassination attempt of July 20, 1944 the end of July was followed by the arrest Meichßners by the Gestapo. On August 14, he was dishonorably discharged by the court of honor from the army, so that the Reich Military Court was no longer responsible for sentencing. On September 28 and 29, 1944, the trial took place under its president Roland freisler before the People's Court. On September 29, Joachim Meichssner was sentenced to death and hanged in Plotzensee.
