Joan Alcover
Joan Alcover i Maspons (* 1854 in Palma de Mallorca, † 1926 ) was a Majorcan poet, essayist and politician.
Life
He was a student of Josep Lluís Pons i Gallarza and classmate of Miquel Costa i Llobera. Alcover belonged to the so -called art direction of the Escola Mallorcan.
Several of his works have been translated and published in several languages. Among his works is the Mallorcan anthem La Balanguera, with music by Amadeu Vives, which was interpreted, among others, the singer Maria del Mar Bonet, as well as music groups Els Ocults, Ximbomba Atomica and Chenoa.
