Joan II, Countess of Auvergne

Johanna II ( Jeanne ), known as Joan of Auvergne, Johanna of Boulogne and Johanna Berry (* 1378, † 1422 end, maybe 1424) was the daughter and heiress of John II, Count of Auvergne and Boulogne, and Eleanor of Comminges, and second wife of the Duke Jean de Berry (* 1340, † 1416 ). It is especially so known because it on the Bal des Ardents the life of her nephew of King Charles VI. saved.

On June 5, 1389, was eleven years old, married in Riom with Duke John of Berry, the 38 years old son of King John II, after Jean de Berry had previously been widowed a year. The marriage remained childless.

At the age of 14 years, on 28 January 1393, she participated at the Bal des Ardents, in which the king was thrown into a fire in mortal danger. Johanna wrapped him in her clothes and protect him from getting burned. 1404 her father died and she inherited Auvergne and Boulogne.

1416 died John of Berry. Johanna married on November 16, 1416 Georges de La Trémoille, Count of Guines († 1446 ). This marriage remained childless, so its possession later went after her death to her cousin Mary of Mongascon and their descendants from the family of La Tour, then the La Tour d'Auvergne was called.
