Joan Martorell

Joan Martorell i Montells (* 1833 in Barcelona, † July 5, 1906 in Barcelona) was a Catalan architect and architect. He was an uncle of the architect Martorell i Puig Bernardí.

Life

Martorell received his title as an architect in 1876 and thus belongs to the first year of the Escola de Arquitectura de Barcelona. Its architectural language is attributable to the late historicism, especially the then very popular in Catalonia, Gothic Revival, with strong influences of the ideas of Viollet -le- Duc. But he is already considered an important pioneer of Modernism, after all, were the two most important representatives of Modernism, namely Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner, even as a student employee in his office.
