Joan Villadelprat

Joan Villadelprat ( born 1955 in Barcelona) was team manager in Formula 1 at Tyrrell, Benetton and Prost.

Life

Even in his childhood, a native of Barcelona Joan Villadelprat interested in racing. His family belongs to a small workshop near Barcelona. Here the Spaniards spent a lot of time with the mechanics employed there. At the age of 16 years Villadelprat watching a Formula 1 race, which won Jackie Stewart. This was probably the main reason for his desire to become a mechanic in Formula 1. He began to make in the workshop of his father's training as a mechanic. At the same time Villadelprat tried as a racing mechanic in several small Spanish motorsport series.

In the late 1970s he moved to the home of motorsport, to England. In 1979 he got a job in Woking, in Ron Dennis company Four Racing Ltd. At this time, Dennis drove team in Formula 2 and Formula 3 1980 Dennis began the construction of a Formula 1 car, which was used in 1981. So Villadelprat was employed as a mechanic for the McLaren team. Over the next six years, he won with three McLaren drivers' world championship titles with Niki Lauda and Alain Prost.

John Barnard brought him in 1987 to Ferrari. As Barnard went to Benetton, Villadelprat could hire as a team manager at Tyrrell.
