Joanna of Bavaria

Johanna of Bavaria ( * 1362 probably in The Hague, † December 31, 1386 in Prague) is the second oldest daughter of Duke Albrecht was I of Straubing- Holland. She married in 1370 at the age of eight years later the King of Bohemia and Holy Roman king Wenceslas of Luxembourg, who was then nine years old.

Johanna traveled on August 23, 1370 together with her parents from The Hague to Rotterdam, Cologne, Mainz and Würzburg to Nuremberg. As gifts they brought with smoked eel and salt herrings. On September 18, Johanna was in Nuremberg given to the representatives of the Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV.

While her parents made ​​their way into her residence Straubing in Lower Bavaria, Johanna was brought to Prague. After Charles had reached a papal dispensation because of the close relationship between the spouses in Marseille on 21 September, a symbolic nuptials took place eight days later. Marriage finally in 1376 was in fact taken place in Prague. She held until the death of Joan on 31 December 1386 but remained as the other marriage Wenceslas childless. Johanna died from the consequences of an attack of her husband, a hunting dog and was buried in the Cistercian monastery of King's Hall in Prague.
