Joannes Cassianus Pompe

Joannes Pompe Cassian ( born September 9, 1901 in Utrecht, † April 15, 1945 in Sint Pancras at Alkmaar ) was a Dutch pathologist named after him metabolic disorder Pompe disease first described in 1932.

After studying at the University of Amsterdam and gave his approval to the doctor in 1936 with his dissertation Cardiomegalia glycogenica at that metabolic disorder, which was later named after him. Pompe was very well read and a devout Catholic. During World War II, a secret radio plant was discovered in his laboratory. Pompe was arrested by the German occupiers in February 1945. After a railway line near St. Pancras was blown up, he was shot along with 19 other people in a reprisal action.
