Joaquim Guedes

Joaquim Manoel Guedes Sobrinho ( born 1932 in São Paulo, † 27 July 2008 ) was a Brazilian architect.

Guedes was known that he rejected formalism and a preferred architecture, which was received on everyday needs. He was a critic of Oscar Niemeyer and the main direction of Brazilian architecture. Although he was mostly attributed to the Paulista School, he was therefore many colleagues as the " Black Sheep ". Guedes worked on more than 400 projects; Since 1955 he worked in São Paulo. The best known were his houses and city projects, which also include the design for the new city Caraíba in the state of Bahia.
