Jockey
A jockey is a professional horse jockey. In order to be allowed to designate as a jockey, the person must have a three-year training course under a trainer, and a final exam have passed and have won at least 50 class -A races. These conditions apply to Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
There is officially no size restrictions, it is important to make the required weight of 55 kg or less. Amateur rider are usually larger and heavier as a rule, the weight of 60 kg should not be exceeded, as in obstacle jockeys. The training is officially called Pferdewirt race riding. In addition to riding the trainees are taught in the care, health, reproduction and body of the animals. Many older jockeys who no longer practice the jockey profession or the weight can not keep, to be a coach or feed and stable manager.
Word origins and history
The word jockey is a anglicism and comes from the diminutive of the Scottish first name Jock (English Jack for Johann ), which is used as a synonym for " fellow, riding guy " and at least since 1529 is in use. The history of the jockeys as a career and fighting for the win jockey can then be traced back to England. The first horse races were probably at times Heinrichs II ( 1154-1170 ). A clear sign of horse racing is seen in 1522, in 1599 the Jockey is mentioned in racehorses circles. The term jockey for a person who rides in horse racing is in use from about 1660. 1780 is used for horse racing, the term Derby to the 12th Earl of Derby.
Jockey School
Since March 2003, is the only jockey school in Cologne Germany, which also called German Jockey School. It was preceded by plans of the Central Association of the German flat racing and the Board for thoroughbred breeding and racing in terms of ways to promote young jockeys in Germany. At the school, the profession is Pferdewirt informed racing horse riding, a nationally recognized training occupation. During a three -year training period riding thoroughbreds of the trainees learn in a first team in training, later in the race. The school is located in the area of the racecourse Weidenpesch, Cologne.
