Jodocus Willich

Jodocus Willich (actually Wilcke; * 1501 Rößel, † November 12, 1552 in Halle) was an East Prussian physician, scholar and polymath. The spelling of his name exists in many variations, such as when Willichius, Jodocus; Willichius, Iodocus; Vuillichius, Iodocus; Wild; Willichius; Willich, Josse; Willichius Resellius; Willichius Resellianus or Vuillichius.

Life

After studying at the University Viadrina he acquired already in 1517 the academic degree of bachelor and took over in 1524 his first professorship in Frankfurt. As one of the great Renaissance scholars was the eminent polymath to the standard-bearer of the University at that time. The friend Melanchthon was a famous doctor and voice conveyor. He created to be the first learned society in the Oder city. He also was the founder of the first civil Musiziergemeinschaft Germany ( " convivium Musicum " ), in which twelve people were concerned with secular music and the discussion of musical questions from 1535 onwards. He died in 1552 and received his grave the Frankfurt St. Mary's Church.
