Joe Bertram

Joe Bertram ( born April 29, 1957 in Boulder, Colorado) is since 2006 member of the House of Representatives from Hawaii for the 11th electoral district. He also is a member of, among others, the Education Committee and the Health Committee.

Bertram belonged from 1995 to 2000, the Green Party. Since 2002 he is a member of the Democratic Party.

Bertram 2006 After three unsuccessful attempts, the Maui County Council voted, applied for the first time for a seat in the House of Representatives. He sat down with a good 1,000 -vote lead (corresponding to about 10% share of the vote ) against his Republican opponent by and thus won the seat of his predecessor Chris Halford by the Republicans, who was divorced on grounds of age from office.

Private life

Bertram was born on the mainland and moved to Kihei age of nine with his parents. He attended the Kihei Elementary School, Seabury Hall in Makawao and Henry Perrine Baldwin High School in Wailuku.

Bertram is HIV -positive. He is one of two openly gay members of the House of Representatives of the State and lives with his partner for 25 years.
