Joe Murray (animator)

Joe Murray ( May 3, 1961 in San Jose, California; Joseph Murray ) is an American animator. He created the cartoon series Rocko's Modern Life and Camp Lazlo.

Biography

Since Joe Murray was 16, he worked as an artist. Later he was a political cartoonist for a newspaper in San Jose. He was hired as a designer of an agency and invested his wages in self-produced animated films. At 20, Murray founded his animation company Murray Studios. His first animated film attempts date back to 1986, when he studied at the California Institute of the Arts. Murray's most successful animated film was entitled The Core. The two- minute film was produced in 1987 and earned him the 1989 Student Academy Award.

Since 1988, Murray worked for MTV as an animator for commercials. In 1991 he left MTV to promote his own projects in hope. For his animated commercials from MTV he created Heffer Wolfe that will occur later in Rocko's Modern Life.

My Dog Zero

My Dog Zero appeared in 1992 and was Murray's first color film. With a grant Murray commissioned twelve people to colorize the film. The film was broadcast in the United States on television.

Rocko's Modern Life

In 1993, Murray created the animated series Rocko's Modern Life, and was also an executive producer of the series produced until 1996. Originally appeared in Rocko unpublished comic book Travis, which wanted to sell Murray to finance the film My Dog Zero. But the sale of the comic book did not materialize. After the third season, Murray decided that Stephen Hillenburg should produce the fourth season. Murray withdrew after the fourth season all the way back, took a break from animation shop and wrote and illustrated children's books.

Camp Lazlo

After the long break, Murray decided to re-enter in the animation business. In 2005 he designed the animated series Camp Lazlo, which he sold to Cartoon Network. A total of five seasons were filmed before the series was discontinued in November 2007. On 8 September 2007, the movie Where's Lazlo, based on the animated series Camp Lazlo won an Emmy for " Outstanding Animation Production". Once the final season will be sent to Camp Lazlo, Murray plans to produce a short film called Fish Head in 2009.

KaboingTV

Murray founded the page KaboingTV, an Internet network that is dedicated to just cartoons, which he financed through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.com. KaboingTV launched on 11 March 2011.
