Joe Sostilio

Joseph "Joe" Sostilio ( born January 3, 1915 in Newton, Massachusetts, † July 9, 2000 in Tarpon Springs, Florida) was an American race car driver.

Sostilio began his racing career in 1932 at the age of 17 years at a Ford Model A stock car. In 1935 and 1936 he won the championship in Dirttrack race for New England. In 1938 he won at the Midget Cars in the New England Championship in 1939 in the championship of Vermont. After the Second World War, he continued his career primarily with Midget Cars continued and won numerous races and several championships.

He started in 1954 in four races for the AAA National Series. As the best result he could occupy twice a seventh place ( in Langhorne and Darlington ). He drove a Kurtis Kraft - Offenhauser both occasions. The four -offs are, however, compared with 15 non- qualifications over the period 1950-1963, including three times in Indianapolis.

Sostilio died in 2000 at the age of 85 years. Two years later he was inducted posthumously into the NEAR Hall of Fame.
