Joell Ortiz

Joell Ortiz ( born July 6, 1980 in Brooklyn, New York ) is an American rapper, who was with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment label under contract. After Dr. Dre heard several demo tapes of the rapper in 2006, this was taken a little later under contract. In January 2008, Ortiz left the label.

Production history

On April 24, Ortiz published in 2007 his first solo album The Brick ( Bodega Chronicles ). However, the LP was not released on the label Aftermath Entertainment, but on Koch Records. Reason for this was that the album had already been completed when Ortiz was not contractually bound to Aftermath. Thus, the album was recorded without the influence of an Aftermath producers. For this reason was given by Dr. Dre Ortiz permission to publish the album on another label.

Produced The Brick, among others, DJ Premier and The Alchemist. As feature guest rappers known as MOP, Styles P., Ras Kass and Immortal Technique are represented with guest contributions.

Since late 2008, Ortiz is part of the artist association Slaughterhouse. Since 2011 he has been under contract with Eminem's Shady Records label.
