Jogo do Bicho

The Jogo do Bicho ( Animal Game port. ) is an illegal lottery game in Brazil.

Origin

Around 1885 around an employee of a zoo of Rio de Janeiro invented a lottery to raise much needed funds. He arranged 25 easy to remember animals of the zoo (more or less) alphabetically and each animal had four consecutive numbers.

The Jogo do Bicho leads the deer (Portuguese veado ) to twenty-fourth place. As the twenty-fourth paragraph of the constitution forbade old Brazilian homosexuality was " veado " until today to colloquial, pejorative term for a male homosexual.
