Jógvan á Lakjuni

Jógvan á Lakjuni ( born November 13, 1952 in Fuglafjørður, Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese politician of the conservative People's Party ( Fólkaflokkurin ) since November 2011 and President of the Løgtings.

Jógvan á Lakjuni is the son of Mary and Jákup Oluf á Lakjuni. He is married to Oddvør, born Gunnarsson. Together they have four sons and a daughter.

Lakjuni is a teacher and studied at the University of the Faroe Islands. 1969-72 he worked as a sailor, 1977-89 as an elementary school teacher in Fuglafjørður. Since 1989 he has taught at the business school in Kambsdalur. 1994-96 he sat in the Provincial School Board, whose chairman he was one and a half years.

Since 1998 Lakjuni is a member of Løgtings. 2004 to 2008 he was Minister of Health.

Private Lakjuni is a musician who has composed many songs. In the 1980s, he was the frontman of the Faroese band Bros. Lakjuni is not a member of the Lutheran state church, but Brethren church.
