Johan Adam Pollich

Johann Adam Pollich ( born January 1, 1741 Kaiserslautern, † February 24, 1780 ) was a German physician and naturalist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Pollich ".

Life and work

Pollich studied medicine at the University of Strasbourg and practiced by his Doctorate in medicine, first as a doctor. From 1764 he devoted himself exclusively to natural history, in particular the botanical exploration of the Palatinate.

As a result of his research he published the three-volume Historia plantarum in Palatinatu ..., the first volume in 1776, the following two volumes have been published in 1777. Because of the exemplary plant descriptions in this work this was highly appreciated by his contemporaries. In two other works Pollich has published the results of his zoological studies.

The working in the Palatinate Association for Nature Research and Care eV was named in his honor Pollichia, as well as the plant genus Pollichia Aiton from the carnation family ( Caryophyllaceae ). From 1778 was Johann Adam Pollich member of the Leopoldina.
