Johan Daniel Berlin

Johan Daniel Berlin ( born May 12, 1714 Memel, now Klaipėda, † November 4, 1787 in Trondheim, Norway ) was a Danish- Norwegian composer and organist.

Life

Johan Daniel Berlin went from 1730 to 1737 at the Copenhagen Town Musicians Andreas Berg in teaching. From 1737 to 1767 he worked as a town musician in Trondheim, where he had accepted the position of organist in 1740. He was the father of nine children, of whom three sons were to follow in her father's footsteps and be active as a musician.

Berlin is probably one of the most remarkable figures in the history of the city of Trondheim. He organized concerts, composed, wrote in 1744 the first music textbook in Danish ( Musikaliske Elementer ), published in 1765 a treatise on musical mood, worked as a map illustrator, architect, head of the fire department and as an inspector, which was founded in 1777 waterworks. He belonged to the circle of a scholarly group, Det Norske Kongelige Videnskabers Selskab, in their publications, he reported on meteorological and astronomical observations. He constructed musical instruments, such as a " viola da gamba Claveer " ( 1746 ) and an even got monochord (1752 ).

Johann Daniel Berlin was a prolific composer, but few works have been preserved. It involves three symphonies for orchestra (all in D major ), a Violin Concerto in A major, small pieces for harpsichord and a Sonatina in D minor, which was published in 1751 in Augsburg.
