Johan Gottlieb Gahn

Johan Gottlieb Gahn ( born August 19, 1745 in Voxnabruk, community Ovanåker; † December 8, 1818 in Falun ) was a Swedish chemist.

Gahn was in Uppsala student of Torbern Olof Bergman and Carl Wilhelm Scheele, who was provisor the pharmacy at that time.

Gahn discovered in 1770 that phosphorus is found in bone and isolated in 1774 by reduction of manganese, manganese dioxide ( pyrolusite ). In 1793 he was appointed Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
