Johan Wilhelm Zetterstedt

Johan Wilhelm Zetterstedt ( born May 20, 1785 Mjölby, † December 23, 1874 in Lund ) was a Swedish naturalist. He worked mainly on (Diptera ) and Hymenoptera ( Hymenoptera). Its official botanical author abbreviation is " JWZetterst. ".

Zetterstedt studied at Lund University, where he was a pupil of Anders Jahan Retzius. In 1822 he became a professor in 1836 and was followed by Carl Adolph Agardh as a professor of botany and practical economy. From 1846 to 1847 he was rector of the university.

He works particularly as entomologist. His collection of Diptera and Orthoptera are in the Zoological Museum of the University of Lund.

His students included the Swedish entomologist Anders Gustaf Dahlbom ( 1806-1859 ).
