Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen

Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen ( born December 2, 1670 in Gander home; † February 12, 1739 in Halle ( Saale) ) was a theologian of the pietistic Halle School, and as a disciple and successor of August Hermann Francke, who was also his father, the second director of the Francke Foundations.

Freylinghausen studied theology in Jena, learned Joachim Justus Breithaupt know, was won in hall of August Hermann Francke for pietism, in 1695 his assistant in the office of preaching at St. Ulrich; He died in 1739 in Hall as pastor of St. Ulrich and director of the orphanage and Pedagogium.

Freyling Stockhausen's importance lies next to his administrative capacity, especially in the field of hymnology. He wrote 44 hymns, but hosted several major collections of songs. His witty hymnal with 1500 older and newer spiritual songs, was widely known as Freyling house cal hymnal. It experienced since the publication of the first part in 1704 in quick succession several editions and was a major influence on a whole generation of hymnals. In this hymnal four sacred songs of JJ Breithaupt were published. In the Protestant hymnal no name can be found under EC 356 the song There is salvation in no other, otherwise given a song of Freylinghausen to which he wrote the lyrics of the first stanza.

His foundation of theology has been widely read and placed fourteen times to 1744.

He was married in 1715 with Francke's daughter, his own goddaughter, the 27-year younger Johanne Sophie Anastasia. The couple had a son Gottlieb Anastasius Freylinghausen, who later became director of the orphanage, and two daughters. One of them was Auguste Sophie, Johann Conrad Philipp Niemeyer married, the archdeacon was in Hall, and the mother of the theologian David Gottlieb and August Hermann Niemeyer was. Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen was buried in the Halle Stadtgottesacker ( sheet 80/81 ) in the family vault of August Hermann Francke.

The great room in the Francke Foundations is named after him.
