Johann Baptist Franzelin

Johann Baptist Georg Franzelin ( born April 15, 1816 in Aldino, South Tyrol; † 11 December 1886 in Rome) was an Austrian Jesuit, cardinal and theologian.

Life

Franzelin occurred at age 18, after the obligatory novitiate in 1834 in the Society of Jesus. one. He studied philosophy and worked subsequently for some time as a lecturer in Tarnopol and Lemberg in Galicia.

1845 Franzelin went to the Collegium Romanum Gregorian in Rome. Three years later he was sent his order to the UK. Later he was able to return to Rome and bring his studies to a successful end. Immediately afterward entrusted to him there as a lecturer; inter alia, of Oriental Languages ​​.

Between 1857 and 1876 Franzelin was professor of dogmatic theology. As such, he also acted as a consultant to various congregations. In addition, he was also instrumental in the development of several Constitutions of the First Vatican Council.
