Johann Baptist Streicher

Johann Baptist Streicher ( born January 3, 1796 in Vienna, † March 28, 1871 ) was a major piano makers in the 19th century.

Biography

Streicher was the son of Andreas Streicher and Nannette Streicher. In the piano company of his parents, he learned the craft of piano maker. In 1823 he became a partner and after the death of his parents in the year 1833 became the sole owner of the company that developed numerous patents under his leadership and international standing. Among his most famous students included the German piano maker Johann Bernhard Klems.

Johann Baptist Streicher son Emil 1896 sold the company to the brothers Stingl, as his son Theodor Streicher not accept it, but wanted to be active as a composer.

In 1893 in Vienna Landstrasse (3rd district) was named the strings alley after him.
