Johann Friedrich Klöffler

Johann Friedrich Klöffler ( born April 20, 1725 in Kassel, † February 6, 1790 in Burg Steinfurt ) was a German composer.

Life

Klöffler was born the son of the school Magister Johann Caspar and his wife Anna Gela Ilsenius. Not much is known about the early years of his life. He will probably have visited the school in the Upper Town in Kassel, where his father was employed. He may have received from the Kassel court orchestra musicians music lessons, since family relations to the court of Prince William passed.

From 1750, he was appointed as a staff demonstrated the Court's Steinfurt, the year in which Karl Paul Ernst von Bentheim- Steinfurt ( 1729-1780 ) came to the throne in Burg Steinfurt. Count Paul Ernst was a highly educated, art - and music -loving prince who could perfectly play the flute. Promote the music was a stated goal of his government, for already in 1752 he set up a theater and orchestra, appointed in 1753 Johann Friedrich Klöffler as concert master and awarded him in 1754 the title of Director Musices. This Directorium had to be provided free of charge initially. So the main work Klöfflers remained the financial administration of the court.

First, it was chamber music concerts that were performed regularly. After the construction of Bagno, a concert hall, public symphony concerts were increasingly being offered. For this purpose also provided Klöffler his contribution with numerous symphonies, chamber music and piano sonatas. However flute music was at the court particularly popular and so it was clear that Klöffler was particularly challenged here. Especially his flute concertos made a great impression. They were estimated in all the courts of Europe. Multiple his compositions have been published and so his musical reputation 1770-1790 reached its peak. He became a member of society " Utile Dulci " in Stockholm, a special honor to their presentation he made a special trip to Amsterdam. He belonged to the so-called Mannheim school musical.

Since 1781 Johann Friedrich Klöffler made extensive concert tours. Was particularly impressed the audience of his battle symphony with two orchestras, a unique novelty of his time. So performances are demonstrated in Amsterdam ( 1777), Kassel ( 1781), Frankfurt am Main (1781 ), Berlin ( 1781), Hamburg ( 1782 ), Lübeck ( 1782 ), Copenhagen (1783 ), London ( 1783), Braunschweig (1783 ), Königsberg (1783 ), Riga ( 1784), Saint Petersburg ( 1784), Moscow ( 1784), Wetzlar (1786 ), Mainz (1786 ), Augsburg (1786 ), Munich (1787 ), Vienna ( 1787) and Linz ( 1787).

1786, he was released from the leadership of the orchestra for reasons of age and assigned to the first violinist, but he remained director Musice. However, In addition to his career as a composer and musician, he provided his court service in financial management and climbed up to the secret financial assessor on ( 1780). Thus, various comments Klöfflers to financial management, tannery, postal and " How could apply its capital with the greatest benefit " are detected.

1789 dismissed from the service with honor, he died on February 6, 1790 in Steinfurt.
