Johann Friedrich Ludwig Hausmann

Johann Friedrich Ludwig Hausmann ( born February 22, 1782 Hannover, † December 26, 1859 in Göttingen ) was a German mineralogist, geologist and soil scientist.

Life and work

Hausmann studied at the Collegium Carolinum in Brunswick and the University of Göttingen. In 1803 he resigned as auditor a while Mining Office in Clausthal, 1805 Chamber Secretary on the construction and metallurgy Department in Brunswick, undertook in 1806 and 1807 geognostical and Metallurgical trip through Scandinavia and in 1809 Inspector General of mining, metallurgy and salt works of the Kingdom of Westphalia in Kassel.

After the death of Johann Beckmann took over Hausmann 1811, the Chair of Mineralogy and Technology at the University of Göttingen. However, he also had to offer lectures on mining and metallurgy, as well as agriculture and forestry. For almost thirty years he held in Göttingen in accordance with J. Beckmann's famous " Textbook of teutschen agriculture " agricultural lectures he most recently " The doctrine of agriculture " announced under the title.

The focus of his research devoted Hausmann among others, the study of the North German mountains, particularly the Upper Harz region, but also of the Weser mountain country. His works, some of which were later classified as epoch-making, are characterized by reliability and document his critical observation. In 1821 he founded the " Gottingen club miners ' friends ', the official publication " studies " he published from 1824 to 1858 and editorially. With his students, he undertook extensive geological field trips each year.

Family

Hausmann 1809 married Wilhelmine, born Lueder ( 1786-1841 ). The marriage produced four sons and two daughters were born:

  • Henriette (1812-1879) ∞ Johann Eduard Wappäus
  • Karl Georg Ernst Friedrich (1816-1879), a Prussian lieutenant general

Honors

  • A 1813 newly discovered mineral hausmannite was named after him.
  • On December 30, 1839 Haussmann became an honorary member of the Society of Natural Sciences Emden.
