Johann Friedrich Ludwig Wöhlert

Johann Friedrich Ludwig Wöhlert ( born September 16, 1797 in Kiel, † March 31, 1877 in Berlin) was a German entrepreneur.

Life and work

Trained as a carpenter came Wöhlert 1818 to Berlin. Here he worked until 1836 in the engineering works of Franz Anton Egells and then in the iron foundry and machine shop of August Borsig on Oranienburger Tor. Wöhlert founded in 1842 in Chausseestraße 29 his own engineering works and iron foundry, where he restored locomotives. 1872, the company was transformed into a corporation. This went AG 1879 - after his death - bankrupt.

During his time in Berlin entrepreneur Wöhlert always lived close to his factory:

  • In 1836, during his tenure at August Borsig, Wöhlert lived in the Chaussee 36,
  • 1842, the year of the engineering works and iron foundry, Wöhlert lived in Torstrasse 52,
  • From 1844 he lived then in Chausseestraße 29

In addition, he maintained a summer residence in Hangelsberg / Spree at Fiirstenwalde. There can be seen from his factory on several buildings Eisenkunstguß. Among other things, the cross on the Hangelsberger church dates from his iron foundry.

Wöhlert was buried in the cemetery disability in Berlin -Mitte.

The 1888 scale, running from the highway road to plow road Wöhlert street was named after him on 12 March 1889.
