Johann Georg Kühnhausen

Johann Georg Kühnhausen (* 1640, † 1714 in Celle ) was a German musician and composer of the Baroque.

From 1661 he worked in Celle court musician and singer of the Court Orchestra of the Principality of Lüneburg. During this time he also held the post of cantor city of Celle.

Kühn Stockhausen 's only remaining work is made around 1700 " Passio Christi secundum Matthaeum ". This passion is a work for four-part choir, solo voices (soprano, tenor and bass) and basso continuo. Especially the low instrumentalization lifts the Passion of comparable contemporary works. The same applies to the waiver of the burial of Jesus, which is included in most of the passions. The Gospel text is interrupted only by a few hymns. In this case, the multiple emerging chorale "Jesu, my life life " by Ernst Christoph Homburg, whose melody comes from the Celle court organist Wolfgang Weßnitzer, is of particular importance.
