Johann Georg Ziesenis

Johann Georg Ziesenis D. J. (* 1716 in Copenhagen, † March 4, 1776 in Hannover ) was a German portrait painter. He comes from a significant artisan and artist family of the 17th and 18th centuries, whose works are attributed in part to the Hanoverian Rococo.

Family

Johann Georg Ziesenis the Younger was the son of the painter Johann Georg Ziesenis, the Elder ( also: Jürgen Ziesenis (* 1681, son of the stuff maker and write schoolmaster Dietrich Ziesenis († March 20, 1748 in Copenhagen) ) and father of the painter Maria Elisabeth Ziesenis. He was the cousin of Johann Friedrich Blasius Ziesenis.

Life

After he had received drawing lessons from his father, who was a native of Hanover, a portrait painter, Ziesenis lived in Dusseldorf, where he painted several portraits of the royal family lived. In 1760 he became court painter in Hanover ( Electorate of Brunswick- Lüneburg).

On behalf of Philippine Duchess Charlotte of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel, the sister of King Frederick II of Prussia, he had occasion to make in the period from 17 to 20 June 1763 Castle Salzdahlum a portrait of the regent.
