Johann George Tromlitz

Johann George Tromlitz ( born November 8, 1725 in Reinsdorf, † February 4, 1805 in Leipzig ) was a German flutist, flute maker and composer.

Life

Born the son of a grenadier in the Thuringian Reinsdorf Johann George Tromlitz first attended in Gera school, married in 1747 and studied from 1750 at the Law Faculty of the University of Leipzig. The study, he finished with the title of notary Publicus Caesareus ( imperial notary ). About his musical education, which has probably started late, nothing is known, but in 1754 he performed as principal flute in the Leipzig Grand Concert (a precursor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra ) a; He has toured in the following years as soloists up to Saint Petersburg. 1776, he retired from public life. Johann George Tromlitz was a great-grandfather of Clara Schumann.

Flute-maker, composer and educator

Dissatisfied with the tonal and intonational problems of einklappigen flute to Tromlitz employed since his student days with the flute, operational later this commercially, and extended the Quantz'sche flute model to other flaps.
