Johann Hauler

Johann Hauler ( born October 9, 1829 in Oberrimsingen; † August 9, 1888 in Trautmann an der Leitha ) was an Austrian classical scholar and teacher of German origin.

Life

Hauler attended high school in Freiburg im Breisgau and then studied classical and Romance Philology, first at the University of Bonn Friedrich Wilhelm Ritschl and Friedrich Gottlieb Welcker, then in Freiburg with Theodor Bergk and finally in Paris. During his studies, he became in 1851 a member of the fraternity Teutonia Fribourg. In 1855 he was in Freiburg doctorate with a thesis De vita et Theocriti carminibus and appointed as a teacher of Classical Languages ​​and French at the German Gymnasium in oven, where in 1859 his son Edmund was born. 1860 Hauler was moved to Vienna, where he worked at the Academic High School as a senior teacher at the first Theresianumgasse, 1862. In 1877 he became director of the Vienna State High School II, 1880 Member of the National Board of Education Lower Austria.

Hauler was a champion of the " middle school " and the teaching of French. His Latin exercise book was published until 1938 in 32 editions that have been edited by various colleagues ( including his son Edmund Hauler ).

1934 Haulerstraße in Vienna Alsergrund (9th district) was named after him.
