Johann Heinrich Alsted

Johann Heinrich Alsted (English John Henry Alsted, rarely also: Herborn Heinrich Alsted, Johann Heinrich Alstedt; * mid-March 1588 Ballersbach at Herborn, † November 9, 1638 in White Castle, Transylvania ) was Reformed theologian, philosopher, educator and polymath.

Life

Johann Heinrich Alsted's father was Jacob Alsted, priest († 1622); his mother was born Rebecca Pincier of weather and related products. Mehrius.

Alsted studied by visiting the Pedagogium at the High School in Herborn. From 1608 he worked as Pädagogearch and preceptor of the first class at Herborner Pädagogium, 1610-1619 Professor of Philosophy, 1619 in theology at the High School in Herborn. 1618/19 Alsted was a member of the Wetterau Count Association at the Synod of Dordrecht. Since 1629 he has been a professor of theology at the Academy White Castle / Transylvania.

In 1625 he married Anne Catherine Corvinus from Herborn († 1648). His daughter Susanna was married to his white colleagues Burger Professor Johann Heinrich Bisterfeld.

Work

Alsted was the author of famous encyclopedic works in the field of philosophy and theology, of far-reaching influence on both disciplines and in particular by his pupil Johann Amos Comenius on Education.
