Johann Heinrich Hübschmann

Johann Heinrich Hübschmann ( born July 1, 1848 in Erfurt, † January 20, 1908 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German orientalist. He was the founder of modern Armenian linguistics.

Career

Hübschmann studied in Jena, Tübingen, Leipzig and finally in Munich, where he received his doctorate in 1872. His habilitation was made in 1875 in Leipzig, where he was appointed the following year as a full professor. 1877 reached him the cries of the Universities of Graz and Strasbourg, of which he assumed the latter. Despite further calls to Halle (1885 ) and Vienna (1900 ), he remained until his death in Strasbourg.

As a scientist, he succeeded mainly to prove that this is the Armenian is a separate language, the core of which he exposed by isolating Lehnwortbestandteilen.
