Johann Martin Usteri

Johann Martin Usteri ( born February 14, 1763 in Zurich, † July 29, 1827 in Rapperswil ) was a Swiss poet, painter and draftsman. He is best known as the author of seals in Zurich dialect.

Life

Usteri came in 1763 as the son of the Zurich officials Hans Martin Usteri (* 1738) to the world. Inspired by the study of paternal Graphics Collection and visits prestigious Zurich artist ( Salomon Gessner, Johann Balthasar Bullinger ), he embarked on a career as an artist. His interests were also medieval manuscripts, especially the linked with Zurich Manesse, and heraldry. 1786, he married Johanna Catharina Stockar. He was member of the Zurich guild zur Waag and angesehenses a member of the intellectual elite of Zurich. In 1827 he died at the inn " peacocks " in Rapperswil.

Artistic work
