Johann Michael Leupoldt

Johann Michael Leupoldt ( born November 11, 1794 in White City, Fichtelgebirge, † August 21 1874 in Erlangen ) was a German psychiatrist and university lecturer.

Life

Leupoldt studied medicine from 1814 at the Friedrich -Alexander- University of Erlangen. He received his doctorate in 1818 for Dr. med and habilitated in the same year. Interested in psychiatry and equipped with a grant from the crown of Bavaria, he went 1820/21 at the Charité. He learned from Ernst Horn and Johann Gottfried Langer man. Leupoldt was a member of the Masonic Lodge Erlanger Lebanon to the three cedars.

Back in Erlangen, he was appointed associate professor in 1821 and in 1826 full professor of psychiatry. For the Office year 1830/31 he was elected Rector of the FAU. At his instigation arose in 1845 in Erlangen, Bavaria's first mental hospital. Into old age, he lectured.
