Johann Gottfried Langermann

Johann Gottfried Langer Mann ( born August 8, 1768 in Maxen in Dresden, † September 5, 1832 in Berlin) was a German midwife teachers, psychiatrists, and reforming the Prussian State Council.

Life

Long man went to the Cross School in Dresden. He studied as a farmer's son from 1789 with the help of a patron at the Saxon court at the University of Leipzig, law and theology. There he urged university reforms and had for this reason, forced by the administration to change the university. At times, he worked as a private tutor in a merchant Röder in Leipzig. By Johann Gottlieb Fichte he came since 1794 at the University of Jena to philosophy, by the Prussian royal court physician Christoph Wilhelm hoof medicine. Here he taught Novalis ( aka: Friedrich Freiherr von Hardenberg ) and took on a personal relationship with Goethe, Schiller and Haydn. In 1797 he wrote a dissertation on the subject of contemporary psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. He received his doctorate at the University of Leipzig in the same year and opened it a practice in Bayreuth. After that, he was a doctor and breeding madhouse to Torgau, but returned from there back to Bayreuth. 1804 Langer put the man in 1803 by Karl August von Hardenberg ( 1750-1822 ) requested plan "the changes in the Bayreuth madhouse with respect to" before. In February 1805 Hardenberg agrees to the Chamber of Bayreuth Langer man in the most points in an order. 1805 transformed when director of the maternity and mental hospital St. Georgen bei Bayreuth the madhouse in an exemplary " mental asylum for the insane ." He delivered there the sick from their chains. Nevertheless, his " moral " principles of treatment were characterized by the greatest rigor and could possibly also to punishment, hot irons and other tortures. As Bayreuth in 1810 ceded to Bavaria, Langer man left the institution, which enjoyed a widespread reputation, and moved to Berlin. Karl August von Hardenberg took a long man here at the Medical College. He appreciated him and his legal knowledge. He was hired as a State in the Ministry of the Interior. In 1819 he entered the College of censorship. They entrusted him in the same year with the reorganization and management of the veterinary school, which was built in 1789. At his death he was chief of the entire Prussian Medizinalwesens. The cause of death an " atherosclerosis " is reported.

Services

The dissertation Langer 's De methodo cognoscendi curandique animi morbos stabilienda. (1797 ) in the introduction to large separations for animism theory of Georg Ernst Stahl ( 1660-1734 ), a theory that agreed to the long man with no reservations. The dissertation also treatises on moral treatment are included. This dissertation was the only psychiatric font by Langer man.

Langer man gave out a font of August Friedrich Schweigger " About the sick and poor institutions to Paris 1808 " and provided them with additives.

A paper on the yellow fever is dedicated Freiherr vom Stein ( 1757-1831 ).

Langer man is counted among the leading representatives of the psychics. He founded the psychiatric hospitals Siegburg (1820, opened 1825) and Leubus ( 1830) in Silesia. It is one of Langer 's merits, it has implemented mainly theoretical conceptions of the Romantic medicine concerning the nature of mental illness in practice.
