Johann Nicolaus Mempel

Johann Nicolaus Mempel ( born December 10, 1713 Heyda b Ilmenau, . † February 26, 1747 in Apolda ), also Mempell or Maempel, was from 1740 until his death in Apolda Kantor.

The importance Mempels for music research is that he has co-authored one of the most important manuscripts of the Organ and Keyboard Works of Johann Sebastian Bach: the so-called Mempell - Preller manuscript, which was named after Mempel and Johann Gottlieb Preller. So far it is not known where Mempel came into contact with Bach's music. Maybe he was with Johann Gottfried Walther known or Johann Peter Kellner.
