Johann Philipp Achilles Leisler
Johann Philipp Achilles Leisler ( born August 1, 1772 in Hanau, † December 8, 1813 ) was a German physician and zoologist.
Leisler completed in our own plant, the natural history of Germany of the naturalist and ornithologist Johann Matthäus Bechstein ( 1757-1822 ). With this work he described, among other new species of birds, such as the Temminck's beach runners (Calidris temminckii ) ( Leisler, 1812), which he named after his friend, the ornithologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck ( 1778-1858 ). In addition, he described the dwarf beach runners (Calidris minuta ) ( Leisler, 1812) and the Short-toed Lark ( Calandrella brachydactyla ) ( Leisler, 1814) first. The zoologist Heinrich Kuhl (1797-1821) was named in honor of the little Leisler noctule ( Nyctalus leisleri ) ( Kuhl, 1817), a species of bat for him.
