Johann Philipp Siebenkees

Johann Philipp Siebenkees ( born October 4, 1759 in Nuremberg, † June 25, 1796 in Altdorf bei Nürnberg ) was a German philologist.

Life

Siebenkees studied theology, philosophy and philology at the University of Altdorf. In 1791 he was associate professor of Philosophy, 1795 Associate Professor of Languages ​​. His teaching area also included archeology.

Siebenkees worked as a tutor at a German banking family in Venice from 1782, and from there he traveled in 1788 to Rome, where he was staying for over a year, and to Naples. Among his patrons belonged to the Cardinal Stefano Borgia. His edition of Theophrastus, for which he had collected material in Italy, was first issued from his estate, while the first volume of Strabo output could still appear, 1796. 1786, he published news about the Venetian manuscript of the Iliad.

Johann Philipp Siebenkees was a cousin of the jurist and poet Johann Christian Siebenkees ( 1753-1841 ).
